The Legacy of Guido Dorso

The growing support for the Dorso Award from various scientific and cultural fields is undoubtedly due to its association with the legacy of Guido Dorso (1892–1947) — a man who identified moral integrity and the renewal of the political leadership class as fundamental to revitalizing underdeveloped areas such as Southern Italy. His political and moral message remains highly relevant today. In recent years, collaboration has expanded with European and American academic institutions, fostering dialogue at the highest scientific and cultural levels. The Dorso Association has long advocated for unified, collaborative efforts among institutions to meet the challenges faced by regions lagging in development — a vision recently realized with the formation of the Alliance of Southern Institutes (A.I.M – www.aimonline.it), alongside other established institutions. For its outstanding contributions to the dissemination of culture, the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers awarded the Dorso Association the National Culture Award in 2000.
